The National Strategy for Research and Innovation for an Intelligent Specialization 2014-2020 presents these industries as an area that has kept up with the rest of the economic activity, employing mainly younger and better qualified people, but which is concentrated in the regions of Lisbon and Porto, with 50% of establishments located in Greater Lisbon, Greater Porto and the Setúbal Peninsula. The analysis of the regional specialization also shows the existing asymmetries and the weak situation in industrial regions such as Ave, Cávado, Tâmega, Entre Douro and Vouga, Baixo Vouga and Pinhal Litoral, where the sector should be an important differentiating factor of the products and generator of competitiveness.
The CCI are not yet presented as a structured economic sector, characterized by the diversity and dispersion of information sources and analysis structures.
Nevertheless, the field is recognises as a:
- Strategic factor of competitiveness
- Generator of employment and richness
- Means of reinforcing citizenship
- Lever of social and territorial cohesion
- Vehicle of international affirmation of the communities.
CreIA.Lab is therefore justified as is the priority to integrate into its components the Observatory of Creative Industries in Portugal (ObCreI.pt), a social technological structure of information and knowledge management that focuses on this reality / problematic, integrating information and instruments that enable the production and the dynamic and interactive sharing of knowledge about it.
